In the beginning of May, anonymous hackers infiltrated Baltimore City’s Servers leaving government emails, down as well as online payment systems, and real estate transactions unable to be processed. The Hackers wanted a payment of 13 Bitcoins (about $100,000 USD) in order to relinquish their hold, however Mayor Jack Young refused to pay. Instead, the city of Baltimore is focusing on recovering. This is the second Major city ransomware attack in 3 months (Atlanta, March). While Baltimore is starting on their road to recovery, this is yet another example of how important cyber security is in today’s world. Hackers will attack any organization from a small business, to a country.
